Comparison

# Tensel vs statichost.eu

Choose statichost.eu for plain static sites with one of the strictest EU stories around: a Swedish operator, Hetzner and BunnyWay as the only subprocessors, no cookies, flat tiers from €9, and a human on the other end of billing questions.

Choose Tensel when a site becomes an application. The sovereignty posture is comparable; the difference is what runs behind it: containers, a CLI, environments, and usage billing with a hard limit.

## What both do

- European operators with documented, all-European subprocessor lists.
- BunnyWay delivers the static content for both.
- No trackers: neither marketing site sets a cookie.
- Custom domains with automatic TLS, apex included.
- One-click rollback to an earlier build.
- Deploy without git: direct upload there, folder import here.

## The differences

| Dimension | Tensel | statichost.eu |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Scope | Static sites and full applications: any HTTP server in a container | Static sites only, by conviction; no SSR, functions or forms |
| Operating jurisdiction | French company under EU law; hosted on Scaleway in Paris | Swedish operator, founded 2022 in Stockholm |
| Infrastructure | One region: Paris. Backups, logs and platform data included | Hetzner (Germany) datacenters, BunnyWay (Slovenia) CDN; no US providers |
| Git hosts | GitHub (optional; folders deploy without git) | GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Forgejo, SourceHut, Azure DevOps |
| Builds | Any HTTP server in a container: Node frameworks detected, Go, Python, Rust, PHP, Java, Ruby via buildpacks, Dockerfile when present | Any public Docker image as the build environment, configured in statichost.yml |
| Team pricing | Team plan: €49/month, unlimited members, never per seat | Teams on the €49 plan: 5 seats included, then €19 per seat |
| Pricing model | Every euro of subscription is a euro of included usage; you pay the higher of plan or usage, never both | Flat tiers with bandwidth and build-minute quotas; prepaid credits act as a spend cap, and overruns are handled by a person, not a shock bill |
| Preview environments | No preview environments | On the roadmap; the documented workaround is a second site on another branch |
| CLI and API | Complete CLI; every read command emits documented JSON | None documented; the dashboard is the interface |
| Static sites | Detected automatically, served from a European CDN, never billed | The product; bandwidth and build minutes metered per tier |
| Agents | Eleven agent skills ship in the CLI package; skills hold no credentials; /llms.txt published | No agent tooling published |

## Where statichost.eu is ahead

- Git breadth: Forgejo, SourceHut and Azure DevOps alongside the usual three.
- Build flexibility: any public Docker image can be the build environment.
- Static-site details Tensel does not offer: password-protected sites, custom headers, configurable redirects.
- A billing philosophy worth copying: prepaid credits as a cap, and a person who contacts you instead of a surprise invoice.

## Where Tensel is ahead

- Scope: containers run the backend a static host cannot.
- Price for pure static: unlimited static sites cost nothing on Tensel, on every plan; statichost.eu meters bandwidth and builds per tier.
- A CLI, an API and eleven agent skills; statichost.eu documents neither a CLI nor an API.
- Environments, members and roles, an audit log, organisation export.
- Live runtime logs and metrics, for when there is a runtime.

## Frequently asked questions

**Two European hosts for a static site. How do we pick?**

For a static site, both are honest choices. statichost.eu is a fine product, and Tensel's Free plan hosts unlimited static sites for €0. Pick on tooling: Tensel adds a CLI, agent skills and environments; statichost.eu adds broader git hosts, Docker build images and password protection.

**Is their sovereignty story weaker than yours?**

No, and we will not pretend it is. A Swedish operator on Hetzner and BunnyWay with no US subprocessors is as strict as it gets. The difference between the platforms is scope and tooling, not jurisdiction.

**What happens when my static site needs an API?**

On a static host you add a second provider. On Tensel the API is one more environment: a container in Paris next to your site, same account, same invoice.
